And the winner is … Volunteer responder Ann-Cathrin, who saved a life after accepting a cardiac arrest alarm, receives international recognition at the 112 Award.
Swedish volunteer responder Ann-Cathrin Levine Ericson won the Tech, CPR & Samaritan Award, at the 112 Awards Ceremony during the European 112 Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia, organized by EENA – European Emergency Number Association. Our tech innovation in the form of a system and an app, the Swedish 112 organization, SOS Alarm, and Maja’s little sister were also mentioned in the jury’s reasoning:
After putting her one-year-old daughter to sleep for an afternoon nap, Maja Slove’s heart stopped. When she collapsed in her garden chair, her younger sister Anna immediately called 112 and was guided to begin CPR by Sussie, the call-taker at SOS Alarm. Next-door neighbor Ann-Cathrin rushed in after receiving an alert on her Heartrunner app – taking over CPR duties. It is thanks to the chain of command made possible by Heartrunner that Maja happily survived. For her brave part in this extraordinary story, Ann-Cathrin Levine Ericson receives the Tech, CPR & Samaritan Award.
The chain that saved Maja’s life had several strong links: little sister Anna, Sussie at SOS Alarm, the system and app from Heartrunner Sweden and volunteer responder Ann-Cathrin. Together, these stakeholders could save a young life and the future of an entire family.
– It is so great to receive this award. I’m glad that the attention is directed towards me and all the other volunteer responders who want to help their fellow humans when the worst happens. We are over 130,000 volunteers in Sweden. Now I hope that there will be even more of us. It really saves lives, says Ann-Cathrin.

On site in Ljubljana to receive the award and celebrate this great honor was the volunteer responder Ann-Cathrin and the Heartrunner team.
– Our team that develops and manage the system that alerts volunteers are extremely proud of everyone who makes the most of their CPR skills and makes the system great. From the volunteer responders, for example Ann-Cathrin who accepts alarms and gives Maja more life, to other organizations that put our system in a larger context. Everyone committed to increased survival in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), says Jessica Holmström, Marketing Manager, Heartrunner Sweden.
And big congratulations also to our neighboring country Denmark! Because among the other winners was Grethe Thomas, TrygFonden, who received the AED & CPR Award for the long-term and solid work to increase survival in OHCA in Denmark. We are very happy for them, especially since our system has a small part in all their work.
